1. Our company would like to start importing or exporting with RAM. Where do we begin?
The best place to start is a conversation with one of our sales executives. We will set up an appointment and help you put the right distribution solution in place.
We will also make sure the correct procedures are followed for importing and exporting with the South African Revenue Services (Customs and Excise), so you are covered from the start.
Note: Please confirm with RAM whether the customer reaches out to request an appointment, or whether RAM proactively sets one up, and update the opening accordingly before publishing.
2. Why is there a different charge for an international document versus an international parcel?
It comes down to the customs clearance process.
International Documents
Documents move through customs faster because there is no commercial value attached to them. That means no duties or payments to customs, and a quicker clearance process overall.
International Parcels
Parcels are dutiable or carry a commercial value, which means a formal customs clearance is required. This process can take 24 to 48 hours and involves more rigorous formalities at Customs and Excise, which is reflected in the cost.
3. What documentation is required for international shipments?
You will need an invoice that includes a description of the goods and their value.
